Refunds & Returns Policy

1. General Policy

Local Marketplace (Pty) Ltd (“Local Marketplace”, “we”, “us”, “our”) operates https://localmarketplace.store, an online marketplace where independent vendors sell their products.

Each vendor is responsible for the quality, supply, and warranty of their products. However, as required by the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (CPA), we ensure that all buyers enjoy their legal rights to fair returns and refunds.


2. Cooling-Off Period (7 Days)

If you buy goods or services through our platform by electronic means (online), you are entitled to cancel the purchase within 7 days of receiving the goods without reason or penalty.

  • You must notify us (or the vendor) in writing within this period.

  • You may be required to return the goods in their original condition and packaging.

  • A refund will be processed within 15 business days after the goods are received back.

  • Delivery charges may not always be refunded unless the return is due to vendor error or defective goods.


3. Returns and Refunds (Defective or Incorrect Goods)

You are entitled to return goods if they are:

  • defective, damaged, or unsafe;

  • not suitable for their intended purpose;

  • not as described or different from what was ordered.

In these cases:

  • You must notify us (or the vendor) within 6 months of receiving the goods.

  • Vendors must repair, replace, or refund the item — at no cost to you.

  • If a repair or replacement fails, you may choose a full refund.


4. Goods Not Eligible for Return

The following goods cannot be returned unless they are defective or unsafe:

  • Perishable items (e.g. food, flowers)

  • Digital downloads or software once accessed or downloaded

  • Personal or intimate items (e.g. underwear, swimwear, cosmetics) for hygiene reasons

  • Custom-made or personalised items


5. Process for Returns

  1. Contact us at info@localmarketplace.store with your order details.

  2. We will connect you with the vendor responsible for the product.

  3. You may need to return the goods to the vendor or a designated courier.

  4. Once the vendor confirms receipt of the returned goods, a refund or replacement will be processed.


6. Vendor Responsibilities

  • Vendors must comply with the CPA when handling returns and refunds.

  • Vendors are responsible for covering the cost of return shipping for defective or incorrect goods.

  • Vendors may charge return shipping if the buyer changes their mind during the cooling-off period.


7. Refund Timing

  • Refunds are processed using the same method of payment used for the order.

  • Please allow 7–15 business days for refunds to reflect, depending on your bank or payment provider.
